Chronic Fatigue

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis, is a complex and debilitating condition characterized by extreme fatigue that does not improve with rest and worsens with physical or mental activity. This fatigue is intense and persistent, preventing sufferers from carrying out their normal daily activities. In addition to fatigue, symptoms of CFS can include muscle and joint pain, memory and concentration problems, headaches, sore throat, tender lymph nodes, and sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or unrefreshing sleep. The exact cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not fully understood, but it is believed that it may be the result of a combination of factors, such as viral infections, hormonal imbalances, and immune system problems. Diagnosing CFS is challenging, as there are no specific tests to confirm it, and symptoms may overlap with other illnesses. Treatment generally focuses on symptom management and may include lifestyle changes, cognitive therapies, low-intensity physical exercise, and medications to relieve pain, sleep problems, and other associated symptoms. Because of its chronic nature and the significant impact it can have on quality of life, CFS requires ongoing medical care and management.
